Weekend update
May 26th, 2007 by geek
tags: chocolate, daring bakers, ice cream, macaronA quick thanks to all the Daring Bakers that have welcomed me to the Eta Class. Also, the macaron post will be coming soon, I’m just fixing photos, writing, etc.
I’ve been having a hard time consistently writing posts these days so I thought I’d change things up and report on what’s happening at the food geek household this weekend.
I’ve been bitten by the macaron bug again. After seeing Brilynn post on her macarons and the problems she encountered and the renewed interest in a previous macaron post of mine, I have decided to make several batches this week and try out a new method or two. I’m hoping to get a recipe to work consistently but I’m not expecting any miracles.
The ice cream machine will be back in action this weekend! I bought some new, pint sized, containers and they need to be filled up. Frozen yogurt will be my main focus this week; I’m hoping to come up with a decent chocolate frozen yogurt recipe.
In other news, I am now the second male member of the Daring Bakers. I didn’t get accepted in time to participate in the May challenge but June is quickly approaching and I will finally be able to compete share with the group. If I have some extra time this weekend, I will try to come up with a male version of this graphic. I got some help on the side, but here’s the new graphic:

AQF and Delores: The baker boy is up!
Meeta: Nice to know that I have a style. I’ll try and keep it up!
Kelly-Jane and Sandii: macaron post is coming up, this time with step-by-step and more witty humor.
Laura and Amanda: Sure, I like to wear me some nice pumps every now and then, but now while cooking. I *used* to have a pony-tail but I chopped all my hair off years ago.
Jen, Cheryl, Anne: thanks! I can’t wait for the June excitement.
Elle: wink wink, I won’t tell!

Still didn’t tell me where you got your ice cream containers… I do like the baker boy, but somehow I think he needs some extra oomph maybe a power tool in the other hand, or some big broad shoulders?

Hi Jef! Love the baker boy!
Can’t wait to see your macarons endeavour! i am still experimenting with another recipe and will do more this weekend. I found out that I like working the ones with an Italian meringue better than the other recipes of regular meringues.

AQF: I got a buffer baker boy with a crazy cake I could use, but I need to clean it up a little. I’ll post both and put it to a vote I think.
As for the containers, I’m using the very high-tech gladware 3cup square containers. They do the job and they were cheap.
Helen: I’ve switched to the Italian method, too. I’ll spend the extra time making Italian meringue over the black magic of waiting for the macarons to ‘dry’ before I cook them.
